King Momo
In 1936 during Carnival, São Paulo boasted the largest statue of King Momo that has ever existed. Construction was lead by sculptor Batista Ferri and, at eighteen meters tall, it towered over Antônio Prado square when completed. Despite drawing large crowds, this "Colossus of São Paulo" did not survive long beyond the festivities and was deconstructed soon after Carnival ended.
Few images of this short-lived giant have survived and we are thrilled to be able to share this one with you.
